$26.6 Million Raised in Second Quarter; $70.3 Million Cash on Hand—All-Time High
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today a record breaking amount of cash on hand, with $70.3 million heading into the height of the 2014 election cycle. With $26.6 million raised in the second quarter of 2014, the RGA considerably outpaced its fundraising from 2010, the last comparable election cycle, and topped its own second quarter fundraising record. This fundraising success has equipped the RGA with the resources it needs to aggressively defend its incumbent Republican governors and add to its majority in this critical election year with 36 gubernatorial races.
“The RGA has never been in such a strong financial position. It is a tribute to the sound policy, good governance and real results coming from states with Republican governors,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “Their bold leadership, combined with the RGA’s significant resources, put us in strong position to win governors’ races across the country this year.”
“Republican governors are driving America’s comeback, providing more jobs and opportunity and enacting fundamental reform in their states,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox. “The RGA’s historic fundraising success will allow us to provide strong support to our governors and candidates across the country, while aggressively pushing back against the public sector unions and the extreme environmental lobby, which have committed hundreds of millions to the defeat of our candidates.”
