The Republican Governors Association congratulates Governor-elect John Kasich on his election as governor of Ohio. He defeated incumbent Democratic governor Ted Strickland. The Republican Governors Association was a key investor in John Kasich’s victory spending over $11 million.
“John Kasich has won an outstanding victory, by representing Republican values against the values of Ted Strickland and the Obama administration.” said RGA chairman Haley Barbour. “The Democrats threw everything they had at John Kasich, but couldn’t beat him. The President saw Ohio as his firewall and key to his re-election, so Kasich’s victory is important not just for Ohioans who need jobs, but for Americans looking for a new direction in Washington.”
The Republican Governors Association was a key investor in John Kasich’s victory spending over $11 million on TV, radio, internet ads, and direct mail. RGA ran 10 TV ads and sent 9 pieces of direct mail totaling 1.7 million mailers, and performed an unprecedented “internet burst” in the final 3 days that included 200 million online ad impressions over 3 days. RGA effectively demonstrated that Ted Strickland has failed as Ohio’s governor, highlighting his myriad of broken promises and the fact that Ohio lost 400,000 jobs on his watch, using the tag lines “Time’s Up Ted,” and “Strickland didn’t get the jobs done.”
