RGA Plans Aggressive Campaign Schedule For Election’s Final Days; RGA In Strong Position to elect Republican Governors
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today $102 million raised during Governor Chris Christie’s tenure as RGA Chairman. The RGA’s fundraising success under Governor Christie’s leadership has equipped the committee with the resources required to defend our incumbent Republican governors and add to our majority on Election Day. The RGA also announced an aggressive campaign schedule for the election’s final days, including stops in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Michigan, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maine.
This November, the RGA is defending 22 GOP-held seats – including 19 incumbent Republican governors – among 36 gubernatorial races. Nine of those incumbents govern states President Obama won in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, ensuring the GOP would be playing heavy defense in governor’s races in 2014. Despite these tough odds, voters have made it clear they are fed up with President Obama and Democrat governor’s high tax-and-spend agenda, putting key blue states in play, especially in the Northeast.
Through election day, Governor Christie will have attended RGA events in 37 states in 2014, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. Governor Christie has spent over 70 days on the road in 2014 campaigning for GOP gubernatorial candidates.
“The RGA is in strong position financially in the final days of this cycle, and coupled with the records of results Republican governors have amassed and the promise our Republican challengers hold as future leaders, we are poised for success on Election Day,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “I’ve traveled to these states, and I’ve seen the positive impact these Republican governors have had on the people they work for. I am confident voters will reward their leadership at the polls on Tuesday.”
“State by state, Republican governors are driving America’s comeback,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox. “As our electoral map continues to expand, Democrats face a shrinking map thanks to growing dissatisfaction with the high-tax, anti-growth policies their governors have put in place. The RGA’s fundraising strength under Governor Christie’s leadership has allowed us to tout the reforms and successes of our Republican governors and challengers, while providing a firewall to the millions spent by the Public Sector Unions and extreme environmentalists, putting us in position for gains on Election Day.
